Stephen King’s “The Mist” TV series premier airs tonight on Spike. To watch or not to watch?

“The Mist” is a horror novella by Stephen King (Previously Published as a Novella in ‘Skeleton Crew’, 1980) in which the small town of Bridgton, Maine is suddenly enveloped in an unnatural mist that conceals otherworldly monsters.

I’m what Stephen King refers to as “Constant Reader”. I have read everything he’s written and seen all the movies, mini-series, and TV series based on his various works.

The movie “The Mist” was released in 2007. The ending of the movie veered away from King’s original ending, nevertheless, I wasn’t disappointed.

I hesitate to watch the TV series, which premiers tonight. Why you ask? (or don’t ask). I got caught up in another TV series (2013 – 2015) based on King’s 1074 page novel, “Under the Dome”.

under the dome

“Under The Dome” went way off the rails in the first episode. Not too surprising because as the saying goes, the movie is never as good as the book.  But the deviation got worse and worse with each episode, until I had no way to correlate the progression of the series to the book.

Then, the series took a turn that was so dumb, I couldn’t believe Stephen King allowed it. The characters trapped under the dome found a way out, and they came and went threw this portal between the “normal” world to the world “under the dome”. That defeated the whole purpose of the story.

So, back to the original question—to watch or not too watch? What do you think?
